Russian Tennis Player Beats Himself - Literally
Reuters reports:
Russia's Mikhail Youzhny has become an unlikely star on the YouTube Web site after he battered his head with a tennis racket at the Sony Ericsson Open. A video shot by the host broadcaster Fox Sports Network (FSN) showed Youzhny violently whacking his head three times in a row, sending blood streaming down his forehead and nose. The world number 11 was 5-4 down against Nicolas Almagro of Spain in the final set of his third round match on Monday when his frustrations spilled over after he lost a lengthy rally. The clip had received over 700,000 hits on the Web site by Wednesday. Youzhny did not let a little blood get in the way of the match, which he won 7-6 3-6 7-6. The Russian lost his fourth round match to Serbia's Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia 3-6 6-0 6-3 on Tuesday.

Once again, showing superior mental health a russian attacks himself punitively for failing. i hear the saves the duma money.
So an athlete has bad sportsman ship. What's the big deal? Because he's Russian? I've seen a guy get thrown out of a baseball game for screaming at the umpire and shoving him. But because he's American he's just an individual, and therefore not worth talking about to blanket all Americans?
So what your saying is that because this person did this in a sporting event he is more sane and excusable than if it was some stranger on the street with a pipe beating himself bloody?
bad sportsmanship is going nyah nysah when you win... refusing to shake hands when you lose. at the extreme, it was macenroe throwing his stupidity around.
however, to beat ones head till it bleeds is not a contextual good. the ONLY place that one may argue that, and really not get far are the mass religous practices where they bloody themselves for islam.
His behavior actually reminds me of the neurotic people that come out of military service after the hazing program gets through with them!
care to make a bet that he went through that?
