More Athletic Humiliation for Russia
In yet another bitter and humiliating athletic defeat for Vladimir Putin's Russia, the performance of its athletes in the country's favored sport of ice skating again came up short, and this time in front of Russia's home crowd at the Cup of Russia Grand Prix event. Worse yet, in ice dancing Russia was bested by an American pair, having to settle for second place, and Russia was bested again, this time by Germans, it its revered pairs event. Russia failed to medal in the women's event and settled for a lowly bronze in the mens. La Russophobe dares to wonder how much failure is necessary before the penny drops for the Russian people . . . or perhaps it's already too late and they've simply decided that failure is the new success.

UGLY: Why would you think that would provoke a howl? I didn't say Russia ALWAYS fails. Even random chance will allow success on some occasions. Are you really ignorant enough to think that volleyball is as important to Russians as ice skating? If so, you've helpfully proved my point about Russians, so thanks!
I guess you don't read much in English. WhenEVER the US experiences a major athetic debacle it ALWAYS ask searching questions of the people in highest authority and seeks to make radical changes.
But your problem is one of basic brain activity. You see UGLY, America lacks the OTHER INDICIA OF FAILURE that Russia has: declining population, poverty, disease, decline of democracy. It is in this CONTEXT that Russia's athetic failure serves as CONFIRMATION of the OTHER INDICIA. So your analogy to America is simply idiotic.
Meanwhile, you show yourself to be a classic neo-Soviet man, in other words a failure. Instead of looking for ways for Russia to improve it's skating performance, you look for rationalizations to AVOID doing any hard work or accepting blame, just as your Soviet forefathers did. Such an attitude destroyed them, and it will just as surely destroy you.
If you agree Russians suck at ice skating despite the fact that the country is covered with ice and snow and adore the sport, and were humiliated on home ice with a wretched performance, I'm happy to admit that they are great at volleyball despite the fact that the vast majority of the country (indeed, the world) could care less about it and probably has no idea that it is even so.
UGLY: Are you saying you believe Russians care as much about volleyball as about ice skating? If you don't have a poll result to prove your ridiculous suggestion, don't make it. If you think failing to win gold in any event at a skating championship held in Russia isn't total humiliation, then your standards are classically neo-Soviet and you are surely doomed.
