FRIDAY FEBRUARY 1 CONTENTS

(1) Re-learning Russian "History" with Dave Essel

(2) Another Original LR Translation: Neo-Soviet "History" Texts

(3) Ukraine Kicks a Little Rooski Ass

(4) Medvedev Shows Yellow (no big surprise)

NOTE: Kim Zigfeld's latest installment on Pajamas Media details the latest outrage by the neo-Soviet Kremlin, shutting all the opposition candidates out of the presidential race, finishing with Putin's own former prime minister Mikhail Kasyanov. Check it out, and feel free to leave your comments as to how the West should best respond to this blatant provocation, the final assault on the citadel of democracy in Russia.

NOTE: One of the neatest, nicest, bestest features of having a powerful blog like this one is that we can ask questions and get answers from people in the know. In a recent post about Russian Oscar nominees we asked if anyone knew about a Russian animated film, and lo and behold Russian art expert Matthew Bown does. He's posted about it on his blog (with a link to a source where Russian readers can find out still more). Check it out. Sounds like a good expression of the best Russians can be, impressively mixing art with technology and a deserving candidate for an award. Pity it isn't getting more attention in the West; will of course, if it wins. If only Russians could do more like this, and less like Putin. In fact, if they could do more like this attacking Putin, and calling for Russia to rise from the mire of totalitarian despair, there's no telling what Russians might accomplish.
