Kasparov Speaks

There are times when LR is pretty sure the world is going mad, and this is one of those times. Garry Kasparov gave a speech on February 12th before the Foreign Policy Association in New York City and the text turns up on a blog called "Grow with Chess" (hat tip: Robert Amsterdam). You can visit the FPA website and watch the speech or download the transcript.

OUTRAGE #1: The speech was also reported on the ChessBase website. Yet, as far as can be told, it wasn't reported in any normal media outlet even though it took place in New York City. Google News lists only the ChessBase story.

OUTRAGE #2: Garry, dear, we hate to break it to you, but New York City isn't in Russia and Vladimir Putin is. Isn't it just about time to get a on a plane, or at least attend a teleconference?

Is the world going mad?

MEMO TO GARRY KASPAROV: THE KREMLIN ISN'T IN MANHATTAN, KNUCKLEHEAD! STEP ONE IN OUSTING PUTIN IS GO TO RUSSIA.

MEMO TO NEW YORK TIMES: A MAJOR RUSSIAN DISSIDENT GAVE A MAJOR SPEECH IN MANHATTAN. MAYBE YOU SHOULD CONSIDER REPORTING IT?

"MEMO TO NEW YORK TIMES

So we are still pretending that the New York Times is not... well... the New York Times? I am not picking on you. Many bloggers and others seem to be raising the issue of the journalistic ethics of the media as if journalism were still alive.

What gives? Is it like some kind of hypersarcasm that continues on long after regular sarcasm would have given up? The NYT would not cover a nuke in Washington if they could not figure out a way to blame it on capitalists, Jews or Republicans.
