Russians Ring in the New Year in High Style

Interfax reports:

A total of 1,084 fires have been reported in Russia over the past 24 hours, in which 181 people were killed, 698 injured and 517 rescued, the Emergency Situations Ministry told Interfax on Wednesday. Nine hundred and sixty fires were reported in the two days before New Year's holidays, in which 134 people were killed, 255 injured and 121 rescued, the ministry said.
