More Athletic Humiliation for Putin's Russia

Santa La Russophobe is making a list and checking it twice, and she's finding out that Little Volodya Putin has been awfully naughty:

First, Russia is crushed at the Calgary World Skating Championships with only one medal, a lowly bronze.

Then, it's demolished in the Fed Cup women's tennis event by tiny Belgium.

Next, it's booted out of the FIFA World Cup soccer party.

And now, Russia is whipped by tiny Netherlands (whose economy is nonetheless more valuable than Russia's) in women's volleyball (for the second time, mind you)

Yup, no reason not to abolish the Constitution and bring this man back for a third term.

Sweet Jesus! When you think it cannot get any more ridiculous...
First of all, get it right. None of the sports you mentioned are "athletics", which are exclusively track and field events. As for Russia being booted out of the World Cup, that's a pretty strange way of putting it. Presumably, England were "booted out" of the World when they failed to qualify for the competition in 1994. Greece, the current European champions, have also been booted out.
In case you don't know, there is a qualification round, in which Russia came second to Portugal, which was also a finalist at the Euro 2004.
As it happens, Russia is indeed not a great footballing country, which is not necessarily a great novelty. They only competition they have won (as the USSR) is the European football championship in 1960.
Bizzare as it may seem, footballing (or any other sporting) success is not directly correlated to either economic strength or democratic credentials, which probably explains how Brazil has managed to achieve so much.

I'm an American you moron. We own English now. Athletics is any kind of sport. Get a grip.

Yes, England also humiliated itself. The difference being it reformed and improved. In Russia, things only get worse, and that's the point.

As La Russophobe understands it, REITH things Russia is doing just fine in sports (though he gives no evidence of it at all). He's entitled to his (moronic, uninformed, abusrd) "opinion."

So, basically, you believe that success in sports is directly correlated to instutional reform and economic performance. Before you go around calling people morons, you might want to consider holding opinions that are not quite so idiotic.

No, I believe that FAILURE in sports and the INABILITY TO REFORM to IMPROVE in sports is directly related to FAILURE in politics and the inability to REFORM in politics.

Before you go around calling people idiotic, you ought to (a) read what they've written and (b) stop being an idiot yourself.

Russia will have the same coach Australia had in last World Cup. They will be contenders in the next World Cup, probably.

... and it's not like the U.S. blitzed other nations in the last olympics as much as you would expect a "hyper power" to.

Country - G, S, B, Total
1. United States - 35 39 29 103
2. China - 32 17 14 63
3. Russia - 27 27 38 92
4. Australia - 17 16 16 49

Although the U.S. is still kicking "hyper power" butt in the (school) shootings category. Poor bastards.
