Anonymous said...: I would rather translate as "... and no one to talk to". A little difference but, IMHO, a much better fit for the picture setting: a quite common motive in Russian culture - drink a little liquor and get in the mood of sadness and thinking about things eternal.

Note the picture of Ghandi on the bottle. I hope you did not miss the irony here - this is a reference to the recent put-on by Mr. Putin of a Western (German?) journalist, when he, pretending to be serious, rambled about him being the only true democrat in the world today... since Ghandi.; 9/09/2007 4:55 PM
