A welcome and timely blog. I'm finishing off a PhD in Soviet history and am increasingly appalled by Russia's signal failure to even contemplate the lessons of its history. The tragedy is that this seemingly insatiable appetite for governance by tyrants and thugs which defines Russia as separate from Europe also threatens peace beyond Russia's borders.
