He wants to be President and he hasn't even read his own country's constitution!!!!

Obviously the treatment he received at the Serbsky Institute wasn't very effective!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25230932.post-39669067719589863142007-06-03T07:36:00.000-04:002007-06-03T07:36:00.000-04:00Hi,That was the phrase in question. I would also translate "поддержке" as "support" (or backing), but in the context of BB and the whole post, I am not sure what else he might be referring to besides cold cash. What other form of support could he really give them? But obviously, it is not all black and white when dealing with BB.

The people who nominated Bukovsky published their official statement on a site called Prima-News. They called on all other opposition candidates to rally behind Bukovsky as a Havel figure, and for Other Russia to come up with a single candidate after the dust settles. I also don't think this was a statement made in the official name of Other Russia - from what I understand, some of the signatories are in the OR coalition.

So far, from what I've seen, only SPS's Nemtsov has vowed to do everything in his power to make sure that Other Russia nominates Bukovsky. And then the next day, Kasyanov's nominate came up (from his own, old movement).

As for the FT, BB's blog entry preceded their story - their interview was conducted on the sidelines of an official event that came something like two days after that post. But I can't really blame the FT for not knowing about his site.

So there you are.

Cheers,
zaxiAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25230932.post-67525845141044221892007-06-03T07:12:00.000-04:002007-06-03T07:12:00.000-04:00Zax:Also, have you seen reports that specifically ...Zax:

Also, have you seen reports that specifically say Bukovsky's nomination is an official "Other Russia" act? I don't see anything about this on OR's English website, and the reports I've seen seem to indicate it's a splinter group that named him, not OR itself.La Russophobehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05672264388217953086noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25230932.post-82808819154772902682007-06-03T07:00:00.000-04:002007-06-03T07:00:00.000-04:00Hi Zax,Thanks for the link! Can you post the Russia...Hi Zax,

Thanks for the link!

Can you post the Russian text you are referring to specifically, as well as your English translation? I haven't been able to find the phrase

Я отказываю "Другой России" в своей поддержке, как сборищу амбициозных и неумных мелкотравчатых спекулянтов.

As I undestand this sentence, it is not necessarily talking about financial support, but could be referring just to moral support. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'd translate it:

"I withdraw my support of 'Other Russia' due to the arrogance and stupidity of its impulsive leaders."

I've just noticed that the FT doesn't even give the exact date of the dinner it's referring to, quite shoddy journalism suprising from them. But you are certainly right, BB could be on record attacking OR before this dinner occurred, and I'm offended that the FT made no reference to the blog publication two days before its article came out.La Russophobehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05672264388217953086noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25230932.post-14578398902739472092007-06-03T06:09:00.000-04:002007-06-03T06:09:00.000-04:00Just to add to the confusion: Berezovsky's livejou...Just to add to the confusion: Berezovsky's livejournal site (http://platon-elenin.livejournal.com) said on May 28 that he will NO LONGER fund Other Russia. His reasoning - it was splitting up into too many potential candidates and losing its cause. This came in response to Bukovsky's candidacyAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
